Our Story

Since 2018, Oak & Ink has been a haven for book lovers, storytellers, and community builders. Discover the heart behind our independent bookstore and reading café.

How Oak & Ink Began

In 2018, former librarian and English teacher Elena Voss opened the doors to Oak & Ink with a simple but powerful idea: create a space where books and people could truly connect. What started as a small storefront with hand-built oak shelves has grown into a beloved local institution that pairs a thoughtfully curated book collection with a warm, inviting café. The name reflects our roots—oak for the strength and longevity of great stories, and ink for the words that have the power to change us. Today, Oak & Ink hosts author readings, intimate book clubs, writing workshops, and casual conversations over locally roasted coffee and fresh pastries. We remain fiercely independent and deeply committed to amplifying diverse voices and building community.

Meet Our Founder

Elena Voss has spent her life surrounded by books. After more than a decade as a public librarian and teacher, she took a leap of faith to open Oak & Ink. Her vision was never just to sell books, but to create a third place where neighbors could gather, discuss ideas, and find belonging. When she's not selecting new titles or chatting with customers, Elena can usually be found reading in the café corner with a pot of Earl Grey. Her current favorite read is "Piranesi" by Susanna Clarke, and she believes every person has at least one book that will change their life—they just need help finding it.
